K-12 Education

15+ Years in Education

Having worked in K-12 for over 15 years has made me a different person. More structured, more caring, more purposeful.

Integrating technology in the classroom became my passion and my goal, because I realized how instructional design can be enhanced with the right EdTech tools. So, I went back to college (MA in Educational Technology Leadership) to learn how to successfully lead and help teachers achieve their teaching goals.

My projects as Educational/Instructional Technology Specialist in K-12

There are many solutions an EdTech professional can offer to a K-12 institution. From developing technology professional development for teachers, to helping choose and implement software solutions, to designing policy proposals in order to approach specific problems.

Here there are some of the solutions I created for K-12:

PD Training & Workshops

Workshop design is a thoughtful and meticulous job that requires attention to detail at the same time that an ability to see the whole picture.

In this example, teachers needed training on a specific EdTech tool, Edpuzzle, in order to use videos in the classroom in a more purposeful way. Formative assessment with feedback could be embedded in videos, making the learning experience interesting for students, but also very productive for teachers.

Teachers had to use Google Classroom as their LMS from day 1.

But a lot of them had never used it before. In this example, we created asynchronous training that helps all learners, the pros and the rookies…

Policymaking in Education

Teacher Retention

American Schools

Policymakers highlight these interventions to inform policy for American public schools:

  • Focus retention efforts on novice teachers.

  • Differentiate pay (higher in high-needed areas).

  • Build a cadre of excellent principals.

  • Diversifying pathways into the teaching profession.

  • Redesign educator preparation to support innovation.

International Schools

In my Education Policy class, my team and I focused on researching, understanding, and proposing policies to improve teacher retention in an international school.

Overseas Schools

Successful overseas schools design clear paths towards teacher retention where:

  • Teachers are nurtured and encouraged to pursue 5-year programs (Bachelor’s+Master’s).

  • Teacher social status and salaries on par with professionals with similar education level.

  • Thorough mentorship programs continue with an ongoing professional development for life.

The future of learning is…

Personalized K-12 Education

(and Artificial Intelligence to help with it).

Leadership in Education

“Leaders begin, then, by backing themselves, inspiring themselves, trusting themselves, and ultimately inspire others by being trustworthy.”
