Educational Philosophy

The broad goals of education are to ensure people learn the knowledge and skills that provide them with a sense of purpose and self-realization, to give back to their community, to awaken their senses, to make sense of the world, and to help them find their place in that world. The best way to meet those goals is by considering education a systematic approach to teaching and learning. An approach that takes into account each person in their specific context, a personalized approach to learning.

In that light, it is my hope that my future learners achieve the means, the dispositions, and the motivation to make learning a part of their daily lives; an enjoyable part. I intend to help them see how learning improves their life, not only their professional life, but their personal life. Thanks to technology, knowledge and skills are considerably more accessible now. So, it is my intention to facilitate that connection between people and knowledge and skills, through technology.

It is my belief that the learning process can be the means to self-realization in our life. It can be rewarding, enlightening, enriching. However, education has not been automatically providing experiences full of those qualities. It is time to put back those qualities into education. For that reason, these qualities have become the integral basis of my teaching and the development of learning experiences in my practice.

Learning as a rewarding process depends on a strong set of values, that sustain and maintain such learning relevant, motivational, and satisfactory. The assumption that we do not hold all knowledge, that we can be wrong, and that there are always new truths to find out, has helped humankind prosper and improve. It is these values that set apart the kind of learning environment I want to create for my learners, an environment that promotes inquiry and fosters innovation. In this kind of environment, I play a facilitator role, the person that provides constant feedback, praise effort, directs inquiry, and creates a community learners feel proud to be a part of.

It is clear to me that learning only occurs when the learner is willing, eager, and accepting of the challenge. Learning requires persistence and resilience, it is a challenging process. Therefore, only intrinsic motivation and interest can provide the strength needed in the pursuit of knowledge.
